History was made on November 4th 2008 when Barack Obama was elected the first black president of the USA. Interestingly, his victory was delivered through a radically different marketing approach. In fact, ‘traditional’ marketing methods were pushed aside and the new interactive world with its easily reachable audience was embraced to the full.
Many marketing specialists believe a great deal can be learned from his campaign and the three keys to his marketing success were; simplicity, consistency and relevancy.
His marketing team used the Internet and mobile phone technology more than any other previous marketing campaign before, and on a massive scale.
This enabled them to raise vast amounts of money, but importantly also to collect and analyse data on all those who registered. They got to know their ‘customers' and turned this knowledge to their advantage through the use of social networking style viral mobile marketing, embracing the way many people choose to communicate today.
This also proves that someone (retailer or politician) can come from nowhere and in a few short years lead the world, quite literally.
The future of marketing has just arrived, and it works!
