The British Olympics marketing campaign will probably be the biggest assignment in the history of UK marketing, so the winner of the bid better be up to the challenge.

So who’s the lucky person chosen for the role…

The job has been given to American McCann Erickson, who will be in charge of  handling all 2012 advertising, promotion and digital marketing.

The Interpublic agency beat the insiders favourite the WPP Group, to the account.

The London 2012 tender is unusual because far from being paid a lucrative fee for its work, bidders were invited to say how much they were prepared to pay for the right to market the Games.

The deal will see McCann Erickson become an official sponsor and will pay £10m in value-in-kind services to the Olympic organisers.
